In the book A Swift Kick in the Head and Other Subtle Ways God Gets My Attention ... in Chapter 7 - From Russia With Love and Friendship, I refer to a friend, Krista, who was introduced to me by our Russian translator Elena. I stated in the book that I would post photos of Krista's son Dane on my website ... HERE'S DANE!!!
May 2003 - Dane with his Cystic Hygroma they nicknamed "Wubby"
(since it was always with Dane, they thought it needed a nickname!)
In this photo, Dane was only a few days old.
The Allen's doctor was Lindy Guarisco and Dane was treated at
Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans, LA.
(Ochsner was badly damaged in hurricane Katrina but is now back.

A quote from pages 49-50 in A Swift Kick in the Head ...
"As Krista recently told me, "The challenge, besides the fact that surgery on a newborn is by definition risky, was that the hygroma had grown through his collarbone and was in between muscles and nerves, so the risk of damaging one was quite great. Because it was in a safe position and he was able to breathe and nurse, a determination for when surgery would take place was postponed until he was 3 months old. The doctor examined him then and was astonished that it had indeed shrunk spontaneously! The risk of infection was still there, but further examination showed that his body had completely reabsorbed all of the fluids--there was no risk of infection! Krista was told by her doctor that this was the first time anyone has had photographic evidence of a Cystic Hygroma shrinking (there was a story of one shrinking but there was no photographic evidence to verify it)." Whether or not the doctors documented it as such, Elena and I as well as Krista and her family felt it was a miracle."
Dane on his 4th birthday, May 15th, 2007
(The only signs of "Wubby" is a little loose skin!!)

"I had an opportunity to read the chapter and I thought it was great. I felt like it really captured everything that happened that day in Columbus. I just wanted to thank you and all those at your church for praying for me. I know that without those prayers I would not be where I am today."

"Inspiring and uplifting, these stories are a true testament to the power of prayer...(a) memorable collection of stories that are both entertaining and enlightening. My favorite is "Surprisingly Spiritual Speaker", the beautiful Violet Moon story... please enjoy Carol's spiritual and compassionate stories, keep them near by because when you read them, you will know, that everything is going to be alright."
